Abstract

Plato's inquiry and analysis of courage have been carried out in many dialogues, from the early Apology to the Laws, which indicates the great importance that the Athenian philosopher attached to this question. Besides, courage is treated in numerous different contexts —with different interlocutors, different topics and different objectives— which give rise to a large number of approaches from which a fairly complete picture of Plato's understanding of what Plato meant by courage (andreia) can be inferred.
